Right now, somewhere on this earth...

Did you ever stop to think of what's happening outside of your own personal world?

I was driving home from somewhere yesterday, preoccupied with thoughts of my own life and the struggles I'm dealing with.

Traffic was at a stand-still, and as I mused on my own concerns, I looked ahead and saw that the reason for the block-up was a major accident about half a mile ahead.

Ambulances sped by on the shoulder and I suddenly realized - somewhere up ahead there was a human being struggling to live.

The paradigm shift

I'm so stuck inside my own head sometimes. It's almost surprising when I notice the world around me, which is a shame.

Have you ever looked at the faces of strangers and wondered what they're thinking about? I typically don't even consider people I don't know as living beings - they're just the "crowd".

But each and every one of them is unique and has their own life that concerns them and affects them.

Somewhere on this earth...

Someone is struggling to take their final breath - facing their own mortality.

Someone is losing the love of their life and can't imagine a world without them or how they'll go on another day.

Someone is having the best moment that they will ever have - things will never be as good for them as they are right now.

Someone is asking their best friend to marry them, a lump in their throat and hands quivering. She'll say "no."

Someone is staring up at the sky, wondering if there's any reason to live.

Someone is looking into the eyes of their newborn baby, trying to remember what they were living for before.

Someone is meeting for the first time the person who will steal their heart every day for the rest of time.

Somewhere out there, there are people going through the biggest life-changing events you can imagine - events that will change their world and the worlds of everyone around them forever.

It makes my concerns seem so small and insignificant...and I kinda like it.
